I am a sociologist whose main area of specialization is immigration in the Americas. I have conducted research using qualitative methods and written policy briefs on immigration in the United States, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Panama, Costa Rica, and Mexico. I specialize on a variety of topics such as migratory channels and regularization pathways, integration policies, high skilled immigration, immigrants’ socioeconomic integration, and impact of immigration on economic development. I have specialized as well on the Welfare State in the United States; I have conducted quantitative research on redistribution and child poverty in six middle-income countries, for which I used the Luxembourg Income Study Database, the largest available income database of harmonized microdata.
I received my PhD and MPhil in Sociology from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, my MA in Sociology from the University of Maryland, CP, and my BA in Sociology, with honors, from the University of Buenos Aires. My research work has been published at Ethnic and Racial Studies, International Migration, International Labor and Working Class History, Revista Sociedad, University of Buenos Aires Press, Ciepp-Miño y Dávila Press, Prometeo Press, among others.
I have more than 15 years of experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses. I teach “Contemporary Global Challenges: Poverty, Inequality, and Immigration” in the department of Political Science and International Relations at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella, Buenos Aires. In the United States, I held appointments at the City University of New York and the University of Wisconsin. I held visiting positions at Fordham University and Lehigh University.
